Impression
This hotel was once renowned for being Rotterdam’s Hilton hotel, but it should now be avoided until some drastic renovations have taken place. Everything from the lounge to the rooms to the exits is a disgrace to the world-famous and highly valued chain of hotels. Even the members of staff express their disappointment in this hotel that was once held in high repute. We regret having to report this and hope that the necessary renovations are carried out soon, so we can once again thoroughly enjoy staying in this hotel.

reception
Unfortunately, our reception was also far from satisfactory. The receptionists did not seem to be aware of the good service people expect, and are normally provided with, in Hilton hotels. Although, after a great deal of trouble, we eventually got the information we required, we felt that the ‘customer-is-always-right-principle’ should not be disregarded in a five-star hotel, especially since all we asked was if we could speak with the sales manager. And even though the woman we talked to was slightly more polite and helpful than the receptionists, the familiar American smile was nowhere to be seen.

public areas
Sadly enough, there is nothing positive we can say about the public areas. The lounge and corridors are old, dark and gloomy, mainly because of the brown ceilings. The space next to the lounge is a complete mess, but the management of the hotel is still waiting for permission from the main office to turn it into a nice, spacious room.

rooms
The rooms are absolutely horrible. They are old and their tasteless interior is reminiscent of the seventies or eighties. Moreover, the walls are heavily damaged and the carpets are worn and often have tears and holes in them.

halls
The conference rooms are tolerable, even though they’re relatively old and smell disagreeable. There’s one large room and a few smaller ones that are suitable for meetings and the like, but for parties or conferences we would certainly not recommend this hotel.

situation
Finally, a redeeming feature: the location is excellent. The hotel is situated on the Coolsingel near the town hall and right in the center of Rotterdam. Anything in the city can easily be reached both on foot and by public transport (trams and buses). The hotel is also easily accessible by car.
